Looking for a good cooler. Don't really want to spend $300 on a Yeti. I have tried some of the $30-$40 coolers, but they don't hold ice more than 2 or 3 hours on a hot day. Any suggestions?

1. Keep your cooler in the house. If you're starting with a 100 cooler none of them will hold ice.

2. How long do you NEED it to keep thing cold?

A couple of days of holding ice would be great. I will admit that I was storing the cooler in the garage before using.

I use Igloo and put a big bag of ice in it the night before then fill it with my adult beverages and ice when I leave. Last for a few days. Remember the more you open and close your cooler the shorter it will keep ice. Also make sure the lid closes all the way.

I love my Yeti, but bring it into the kitchen the night before loading it. Keeps ice 3-4 days, if kept in the shade

Couple of days in the sun or shade?

There's a lot of variables involved here.

If you really want to keep ice for days then chill the cooler, fill it up with drinks and ice and then put a block of dry ice on top of the ice.

For me all I ask is the ice last a day of fishing.

I really want one of these for the boat.

Taiga Coolers. And you can get it in Camo, not a wrap.

I bought a Coleman at walmart for about $30 that stated 3 days. I never pre chill it and rarely completely fill it. If I use large cubes from home, it will last 1 1/2 days in the heat. If I buy bagged ice with smaller cubes, it will last a full day in the heat and drinks will still be cold in the morning. I leave the cold water in and refill with another bag of ice. Don't over buy the size of what you need. The larger the cooler the more ice you'll need to fill it to be efficient.

I've tried bagged coolers and they always seem to leak eventually. Afraid to spend the money on a yeti bag because I am afraid of it eventually leaking.

I use two empty half gal milk jugs. Fill with water and freeze. Put one in cooler the night before. Next day put that jug back in freezer then put second frozen jug in cooler. Add cold drinks and regular ice. Get home put jug back in the freezer ready for next trip. Make sure your cooler has Styrofoam in the lid as well as the sides, as cheap ones usually just have air in the lid space.
