 Fly fishing San Antonio creeks and river

I'd like to take my father-in-law out for some fly fishing on San Antonio creeks and rivers. I've got a few tenkara rods I plan on using, though I also have my little 2wt Orvis rod available in a warm-water rig. Anyone know good places to go for bank fishing/light wading?

Urban San Antonio need banker or Jonesey84 to see this. Come just a little bit north then there are a ton of places and very urban areas around new Braunfels. Also get a lot of float traffic as well. If you are stuck in San Antonio just follow the river downstream or upstream out of town I'm sure there are some great access points. That not be a whole lot of help but there are a lot of species to target right there in the area.

Thank you, Mr. Hunter. I am not bound to stay in SA (actually will be north of town anyway). I was thinking of hitting up an urban park in New Braunfels, like River Acres. Thoughts?

Fished landa while I was there nobody in sight saw a lot of fish rios bass gills and two giant plecos. Ony problem was I forgot may back pack with my flys in hotel room. Had a hares ear tied on so fished for gills. There is another park I think on 46 that I have wadded up above the swimmers a few hundred yards and caught a lot of bass just nothing to big.

I've been fishing the Medina and Sabina recently and the afford nice wadefishing with a fly rod relatively close to SA.

There are a lot of great areas to fish in and around San Antonio. If you want to fish the inner city The San Antonio river Estrada Park is fly rod friendly. Also Northeast of San Antonio a really good area is the Crescent Bend Nature Park which has the Cibolo Creek running through it. There are a couple of fly anglers who fish that part of the creek a lot and do super good on the Sunfish,Rios,and Bass. The Salado and Leon Creeks are pretty rough places to fish. Heavy vegetation,and lots of trash around the creek area. There is one nice area of the Salado that is located at Comanche Park off of Rigsby. Hope this helps you out some. Good luck.  Side Note: Just about 30 minutes from San Antonio north on IH 35 is the Guadalupe River. GREAT flyrod river with lots of area to wade and fish.  Posted a recent story "A Peaceful Guadalupe River"! in the Bluegill/Sunfish Section. There are a couple of pictures of the river close to New Braunfels.

I've waded the Guad before with my Western flyrod equipment, but I was specifically looking for tenkara spots for my FIL (who I think will have an easier time with the casting technique). San Marcos access points with little pressure were hard to come by 2 weeks ago. I was told by some locals that the rain from several months back really did a number to some of the bridges, which I verified by signs that prevented me from crossing several bridges near Martindale. The bridge in Staples provided a decent place to launch.

We found a good bridge to launch from and had an awesome 5-hour float down the river. Hauled in some nice bass.
