Never been here before and do not know anything about the area. Wife and I are going to look at some model homes in the area and hope to take the yaks out before. Any tips?

Looks like maybe Lavonia Park or Lake Ridge Park areas.

I'm not necessarily targeting anything in particular, but would love to hook something. Been skunked every time I've taken the new yak out. At least I'll have the good luck charm with me this time.

Sand bass have been good at Lavonia. Straight out from the ramp at north Lavonia to the point called "hybrid point" all the way back to the rail road bridge that whole area is good in my opinion. Crappie jigs, road runners, or bomber spoon slabs.... chartreuse or chrome or heck anything shiny with a hook will get bit. roflmao
