Last Friday while fishing a spot on Rayburn I picked up a nine pound 25 1/2 " large mouth on a brush pile with a minnow.
That's not the story........I landed him on a perch rod with 6 pound test and a #2 wire perch hook

My knot was good the drag was set right and I was patient. Oh and I did eat him. food

I'm in good shape for the shape I'm in!

Nice catch! Don't post this on a Bass Section otherwise you'll get mob lynch. Hahahahaha! I love those trash fish too. Thanks for posting.

For the record, I fish because I like it and I like to eat what I catch, fresh and salt water. I may not eat the next big bass I catch, heck I may not ever get another one. Mostly because I don't fish for them.

When I hooked him I didn't know what it was. I knew it wasn't a crappie, got a glimpse of the tail and was thinking hybrid or striper. Loosened the drag a bit and started following it with the minn kota. It was a fun ride. He actually tired pretty fast(lucky me) .

The slabs were grilled over charcoal and were pretty good. I'm thinking bass on the half shell next time , like I do my red fish.

It was the largest bass I have ever caught. Had it been record size I may have saved it for breeding but I had to bring him in because no one would have believed it had they not seen it.

No particular pleasure in killing the fish, no more than killing an eight point buck. It just is what it is........... Dinner hooked

Heck, I like bass. The last fish fry I cooked most of the folks thought they were eating crappie but I had a lot of bass that needed to be cooked. The largest I caught was a 7 pounder and like you I caught him while crappie fishing. I normally don't keep anything over 2 pounds because they start having a mossey taste out of these East Texas lakes. I'm not real sure on the catch and release program. I think a lot of lakes need the bass to be harvested.
