I keep seeing all these mentions of rod breaking. I think I have broke maybe 8 in my lifetime. All 8 were my own fault too. From cheap ones to high ends ones I just have not had any break from fishing them despite heavy use in heavy cover at times.

Broke 3 at the same time in my truck door when the wind caught the door as I was putting them in it. Broke 3 more from rod locker mishaps. Broke one that a 1/2 oz tungsten weight hit just above the handle as I was pulling a snag free. Last one I broke when I stowed my TM.

Broke 2 and threw rod and reel in the lake

3 and counting. Lol. Not a good feeling that's for sure.

1. It was a Falcon Lowrider and my fault.

3. Closed one in a door, broke one trying to get unhung, and broke an inch off the tip of another. Tip was wedged in the back of my graph somehow and it broke.

Three. Two in a car door and one in a ceiling fan. Never broke one on a fish. That may say more about my fish than the rod.

Probably 7 or 8 total mostly my fault with the exception of 2 carrot Stix that I broke on Hooksett the day after I bought them both.

Only 2 if u are talking break! I have messed up a few guides over the years!

Broke my cranking rod last month thinking I could boat flip a 15 pound catfish. I was wrong. And one in the ceiling fan. Two in rod locker lid. And one in car door. So 5 total within the last 2 or 3 years

One, my fault: Stepped on the tip of an Academy Tournament Choice--it broke just below the top guide.

Only broken 2 1st raise the window up and snap and broke 2nd between my tail gate and truck cover.

Wow, I have a collection of broken rods in the garage. They're is over a dozen at least, maybe closer to 20. This is spread out over the last 18 years or so. Only one snapped in the midle. The others have the last 4 to 6 inches broke off because I caught them in a door, stepped on them on the deck, or broke them trying to get a jig off of a stump

Probably 10 or so over 40 years.

exactly the same for me. I tried to swing in a big one covered in slop and used my palm under the stripper guide. POW!! Still got the fish in.

2 13 Envy 7'3" MH on hooksets, both 5+ fish, replaced them with Dobyns. Also had my drag cranked down tight, I've learned from reading posts to back that drag down a bit to allow some slip to avoid future breaks

2-3 per year on average, most are from filpping real heavy cover with braid or trying to drag fish out of the slop with braid. With that said I have only returned one due to manufacturing defect as I feel it's my fault.

1 Broke a brand new Falcon Cara Reaction on hookset. They replaced it for free. I still think it was a bad spot in the blank. It broke about halfway to the first eye from the reel. And I mean it splintered big time. Been lucky the rest of the time.

probably got banged up in shipping causing a weak spot on the graphite.

Probably 6-7. Mostly my fault. I did snap a Dobyn's 734 Champ on a hookset about 8" above the handle.

2 when I was a kid in a one month period (dad was TICKED)... One on the hookset, one in the bed of a truck (NO NOT IN THE TAILGATE, a propane tank came loose and smashed it)

Had some Berkley rods given to me when I was in high school. Broke 2 on hooksets and 1 while roll casting a spinnerbaits. Broke a Loomis on a hookset. The others were my fault and broke by not paying attention.

Three and two were my fault.

In around 16 yrs or so of fishing for fun and tournaments, I have broken one rod while actually fishing. A month ago I snapped a Duckett ghost right after the hook set when a small fish ran into a stump. Took ot back to Academy and swapped it for a new one. Other than that, I've only knocked off an eye or an insert.

So 1 in 16 years, I feel fortunate. I use mostly Falcon Cara and a couple TFO taticals. Coach

One lately that was damaged during shipping and broke when I set the hook. Rest due to my fault over the last 30 years. Rods are built pretty good and IMO most damage due to operator error.

I have been fishing for over 50 years and have probably broken over 20 rods, I can only recall 2 that actually broke while a fish was on the line. One was swinging a 3lb. Smallmouth over the side of the boat, the other was on a hookset on a big bass that blew up on my buzzbait that I had spooled with spiderwire when it first came out. This year I was working on my gear and left a Loomis IMX MBR843 that I have had for close to 20 years leaning up against the side of the boat and when I pulled out I realized what I had done, broke the rod as well as the Shimano chonarch mg100 reel that was on it. Called the expiditer and had a brand new one in a few days.

I snapped 5 in a two week span this year. Only one was because of a car door the others were from hooksets and boat flipping

Lots over like 40 years but I'm rough on equipment.
2 though were bad- one fighting a large bass and one setting the hook on a very large bass- both of those over ten years ago both on all star rods. I stopped using those after that.

Two or three all my fault. Banged on edge of boat of stepped on.

I worked at the biggest tackle shop in the metroplex for years in the late 70s and 80s. Had hundreds of rods returned broken, funny everyone of the was broken while just fishing! Never anyone's fault.
We watched a guy shut his car door on a All Star flipping stick he just bought. He just drove off. A week later he brought it in and told us he set the hook on a fish in a bush and the tip snapped off. We told hi to send that one back himself.

I spent 10 years working for BPS and noticed the same.

Two - one got the rod box lid shut on it and one broke on a hookset.

20+ to the best I can remember. Rod company I was with had a batch of bad blanks for several years. Broke a few that I have built before I learned light/sensitive does not mean durable. You have to find a mixture of both. And rods are disposable. They have a life. The harder you are with them (bruises, rod lockers, transportation) the shorter that span is.

That's true!! I bet that happens a lot. I guess I have never returned any of the rods I broke. Those two allstars I had used for at least a year with no issues so I'm not sure what happened. I just lost confidence in them after that. I have friends who swear by them and never have issues so Idk, I just use other stuff now.

4, broke one Thursday. Stepped on my rod on the deck broke the reel seat.

To many to remember, back in my early days Walmart was about the only game in town back home and I broke everything I ever bought there usually in short order....I finally discovered high end rods at a local sporting goods store and it pretty much stopped there. I've broken two rods in the past 30 years and that was because I stepped on them.......

Most everyone of my dads while growing up, once I was older I was able to replace everyone of his I broke and then some. Probably 15 total, and most all were my fault. Only two that I can think of broke on hooksets, and both were the same model rod, must have been a bad batch.

Most broken rods have been my fault. But one I remember clearly as broken by a fish. The day was at Gibbons creek and we had a few OK fish under our belt. The wind picked up so I tied up to a stump off the inlet channel as I don't have power poles. I'm pulling a big baby bass pattern BPS tournament stickbait over the pads and WHAM!! The critter ate the bait AND the pad. The rod bent to the butt and I scrambled to get the boat untied while fighting the fish. Before I untied it made a run and I turned it but it tried to jump. It got about half it's body out of the water so I could see it for the first time. I froze. I had never seen a mouth on a fish like that except for tarpon. From my memory, I could probably stuff a basketball in that basses mouth. I might be exaggerating but I have a license to do that, I'm a fisherman... If not a basketball, a soccer ball.

To end the story, the rod broke below the 2nd guide from the top. I can't even remember what the rod was, probably something cheep because that all I used to buy. I'm working with Trey Kistler now & getting sweet rods.

That same day when I was getting my better half out of the boat at the dock, I busted a MK prop and jacked my gelcoat on the cap. I was a grumpy gut on the way home.

I'll be back at Gibbons until I setting the score with that lake.

A bad day for broken rods that is burned into my memories was about 20 years ago. I loaded up the kids in the Suburban to go to our stock tank to fish. I rolled down the back window on the Suburban and put the rods in leaving them hanging out the rear door window. As I was backing out of the driveway I reached over out of habit and rolled the rear window up. As I looked in the rearview mirror I could see all the rods being broken as the window raised. Needless to say there was no fishing trip that day.

Between broken or pulled overboard by fish or whatever. Probably 20-30. Little mans catching up to me fast though!

4 or 5 Only 1 fishing and i think my buddy stepped on it the same guy step on one of my reels also. All rest were my fault. damn

I'd say 3 on hook sets and countless others ranging from truck bed to rod lockers.

I have broken so many,so many different ways, over the last 45yrs or so I can't remember. The one I do remember was just a couple weeks ago, I am in the process of replacing all my Falcon/Revo combos with new ones so my first setup I replaced was my jig rod, got my new Falcon LFC 7-172 with a new Revo SX all from TW, put it together add line wipe it down looks really great........then proceed to stick it in the ceiling fan that was on high.my beautiful 7.2" jig rod in now about 6.4", thinking about putting a new tip on it and making it a close quarters pitching stick

Don't think I've ever broke one on a fish. Several Broken tips in car doors and other mishaps.

Lol a lot. I broke 2 within 3 days when pre fishing for a high school tournament on lbj. Boat flipped a 4lber and broke the rod in 3 places the broke one setting the hook on a 10 inch fish.

Heck... I get warranties on my rods so I actually purposely snap some just to get a new one... (Bass Pro Gear Guard the warranty is like 20 bucks for 2 years) it's the best deal out there. I have ran through probably 8-10 rods in the past 2 or 3 years

Also, in general, rods are not designed to pull a snag.

Waaaay too many people out there pulling snags with the rod.

I'm going to quit reading your posts Mark. Like above I broke one today---my first. Overloaded the rod on a heavy crankbait trying to get extra distance and broke it in half. Bad thing is I went to get it replaced on the way home and it has been discontinued and the close out price was 39.95. I know I paid more but that was all the credit they would give me.

Mama is not going to be happy when she checks the bills.

I've broke several. 2 were hook sets, one of which was a stump. 1 trying to get way to much distance with an a-rig. All of the rest were rod locker lid shutting on them, or trying to get a snag loose. I quit doing that. An $8 crank bait is a lot cheaper than a $100 or more fishing rod.

Fishing welsh in the early 2000's and had a fish grab a senko and run in the grass. Set the hook and broke a 7' falcon original mh into 3 peices and broke the abu garcia 6400c in the front where you attach it to the rod. Sounded like a gun went off! I got it replace with a low rider so it was worth it, and still have the lowrider today! 20 lb pline was the culprit!

Only 3 - 2 in a car door and one in a tailgate. Not bad for 67 years of bass fishing.

And a 3rd last night, another 13 rod Envy 7'6" MH. That will be my last one, on the hookset, 2 pounder

They just seem to get brittle over time.

1 that was not my fault. It broke on a cast. It was a Loomis IMX783. Sent it in and cost me $20 for return shipping for a new one. Pretty good deal.
