I am new to fly fishing on a kayak....any reason why you didn't use the reel's drag and reeling it in instead of stripping the line in with your hand?

nice bass I am waiting for the day to catch a beast on my kayak

I am the worlds WORST fly guy TXBASSNEWBIE lol I have never used my reel to bring in a fish. I just love the feel of the line and honestly on a cheap reel such as mine I really cant trust it. Please don't do ANYTHING I do as Im sure its wrong lol.

Nothing wrong with stripping the line in like that, I do it all the time, that bass gave you a good fight. If that were a carp in shallow water taking off to deeper water then a good on the reel would be in order.

linecaster, that's actually my current project...I have thrown at carp 3 days this week on the flats. I have yet to drag my fly in the right spot. But its just a matter of time. My son and I have just tied up some San Juan worms and crawdad patterns...I have stalked the same 20# plus fish the last 2 days...but he/she is a bit dodgy yet.
