When adding gas to my Skeeter SX220 Bay boat it belches back causing the pump to shut down. No matter flow rate or nozzle insertion; it literately takes about 1 minute per gallon of gas thus a 50 gallon fuel up takes almost an hour. Any suggestions as how to correct this issue would be appreciated.

I dont know how your fuel tank filler hose is routed but if you can check it for kinks or a collapse because of a sharp bend. also check the vent hose, on cars those will be routed to the vapor recovery system. With all this ethanol in the gas now it can cause the hose to decompose enough that some time a flap of rubber will come loose inside a hose. You can blow through the vent hose both ways to check that, but sometimes the filler neck is easily diagnosed with one of those snake like cameras, that way you dont have to tear things apart. If the vent has a check valve make sure it isnt stuck. I'm not a boat mechanic but I have experience with RV's and their long filler necks.

Your vent is blocked.

Pats correct and I have added vents on some because they are a pain to fuel-up even with the factory vent in working order.

Thanks for the input and yes Pat is correct. This is a new boat that I just finished the 10 hour break-in on. When I took delivery of the boat it only had about 10 gallons of gas in it and the first thing I did on the way home was fill it up; no fueling issues at the time. Long story short; routing of the vent line creates a low spot. Vent line has gas in it; I am guessing it extends to far into the tank as well as a routing issue. I am taking it in Monday to change the break in oil and will have this issue address at that time. I was hoping it was something I could resolve but I can't even see the tank. Thanks again for the replies.

Same thing happened to my car. My mechanic had to pull the tank and replace the cannister that the tank vents through. It's funny how such a simple process like this can cause such headaches.....

Had the same problem on a new Skeeter in 1995,the feeder hose had to be lifted or it would flush back,I just brought the hose up about 10" as best I remember.

EPA requires a charcoal filter in the vent line; not sure when this went into effect. If you top off the tank when filling gas gets into the charcoal filter due to it being lower than the main gas line when filled to the brim. I predict a charcoal filter being by-passes PDQ or quit pumping gas at the 1st shut off of the nozzle.
