Going to the Brazos below the dam at Whitney in the morning at daylight. Will fish downstream for a few miles and head back to fly fish at base of dam when they release water at 1:00. I'll be in an orange Wilderness Ride 115. Come join me if you are going out that way.

Check the flows. Been earlier than 1 last couple days. I'm trying to decide if I'm going or not in the morning.

I am going to be sure I make it back to the dam before about noon. Hopefully we will see you on the river. Is there a place to find out the time they release water. I can't find any information on the times of release.

No. You look at the flows and try to pattern and hope your right. If it holds true from last couple days looks like they started gen early in the morning. The gauge is down river so takes a little while before it starts to register on the gauge.

Made the trip and did well on the fly rod glad I switched over about an hour into the trip from the bait casting to the fly rod. Caught some stripers and bass and a few perch. It is alway a nice day when you are on the river catching fish!

Awesome. Glad you did good. Did they generate any today? Didn't look like it. I slept in.

Where do you look to see the "pattern" of the release flows?

Good to see you on the river, Rick. Even if we didn't recognize each other. LOL.

Bert I am sure we will run into each other again. I thought it looked like you when you passed but since you we in a canoe and not a kayak I wasn't sure.

Hey guys. I've been browsing the forum for Brazos info since I may make my first visit there this Sat morn on my way to Austin. Mind if I ask a few questions? Should I expect to encounter any fast water or is mostly slow and flat? If I go downstream and they start generating, does current pick up only slightly or will it be a difficult paddle back? I have a ride 115 and assume it will do great, but having never been there, figured I'd at least get a good idea. Really appreciate the info!

Jim

Jim,
It will be a hard paddle back if they start generating but you should be able to make it. I have a Ride115 and got caught a few miles downstream when they started releasing water and made it back to the dam but it was a work out. I plan on being there Saturday morning about 6:45. You are welcome to join us. I'll be in a blue camo Ride 115 and my son will be in an orange Ride 115.

Rick

Thx so much Rick! Really appreciate the invite and I'm planning to make it. Will be great to get away from north Dallas and meet some new folks and see some new scenery. :-) I'm in a red Tacoma and camo Ride 115.
