Didn't when I lived in Texas..........but here in SW Utah it's what I do 50-75% of the time. Of course I'm fishing in 30-45'of clear water!

i never owned a spinning rod until 2 years ago. Now, its in my hand any time the bite slows. I do everything from deep rocks to pitching it in the shallows.

Not the biggest fan of drop shot, but I have caught more fish on it than id like to admit. Most of them aren't keepers

What is frustrating to me is....the slack line that is on the weight end of the line gets tangled around every other rod on my deck when running down the lake. So, I hide that rod in the rod box and it does it there too! So unless I've given up on all other options I never pick the SOB up if i don't have to.

A rubber band around the handle of the rod securing the weight works for me. Gotta love a cheap fix.

I've never had the opportunity to do this technique but have done a butt load of finesse fishing using 4 inch plastics, size 1 fine wire offset hooks, and 1/16 oz weight Texas rigged on 8 pound line and spinning tackle. This drop shot deal has got to real similar especially in the bite to catch ratio. With the finesse set up my bite to catch ratio is nearly 100%, basically the set up I use if they touch it they are coming to the boat. Compare that to a 50 to 60% bite to catch ratio using bait cast gear Texas rigging 6 inch or larger plastics on 2/0 or better hooks with 1/8 oz. or better weight out front on 14 pound line, I'd rather be boating all the fish that show interest in my presentation and yes I will be drop shotting, Already bought a rig just for that..........

Take the tag line and wrap it around your rod, won't get tangled

I fish drop shot on a baitcaster and tuck the weight between the tension knob and the cranking handle. I wouldn't mind a spinning rig set up, but I can't see the fish know what kind of rod and reel I am holding at the other end, and I certainly don't need another dang rod and reel combo.

Love dropshotting. But it's mostly a dink fest for me when using it.

Try putting one next to a Carolina rig and a crankbait or two, then let 'em all dance around together while you run down the lake. You'll have knots Harry Houdini couldn't untie.

at the end of your line make a loop about 3' long. then thread the end of the loop through the weight. put the look over your handle and secure the line
Thanks,

Well, you know if you are using a true drop shot sinker with the easy rig line clip grabbing the line in the pinch, keep a few different weighted sinkers in your pocket so you can adjust the weight based on depth of water and wind/current conditions.
Second, just don't put it on. Have the hook ready to go, let the 12" of line just dangle, then when you roll up to your spot, it takes 10 seconds to snag the sinker.
All of this if you don't like rubber bands.
I actually use about a 5" piece of that utility rubber-coated wire stuff they sell. It holds the sinker perfectly, comes off in a snap.
Lots of people learning to drop shot after a weird summer like this! Pros, too, and more and more are adding finesse rigs of all sorts.

I started using the drop shot 2 years ago. It hasn't been the game changer that everyone makes it out to be. I can throw the drop shot on a finesse rig on a tough day and my partner will outcatch me throwing cranks/heavy T-rigs. I've caught fish on it in deep water and shallow water (even flipping around docks in 3-4'), but its not quite the magical lure its made out to be, IMO. If I'm struggling I feel much more confident in cranking than trying to get a bite on the DS. That said, I still use it from time to time.

Your post sounds like I wrote it in terms of the 4" worms, size 1 fine wire hooks, and 8# line. I've caught a lot of bass on that light tackle, up to 8 pounds. I love finesse fishing.

I haven't done it in a few years. I did it a while when I first started learning the technique. But since i broke the tip off my spinning rod I do't really do any finesse type techniques anymore.
It was fun though, I even caught a catfish on it once.

I also use it for my Carolina rig when moving from spot to spot in the boat. To to Home Depot or on line and look up Night Ize. They make a rubber coated tie wrap that works great to wrap around your rod and loose bait or weight. https://www.niteize.com/product/Gear-Tie-3.asp

Most guys I've watched do this technique use smaller tackle in general similar to what I use just rigged differently......most generally do use bigger plastics though usually 6 inch......I don't think it is the smaller plastics so much that makes them hang on but rather the smaller hook that they don't so easily feel. The drop shot hooks I've looked at are fairly small and that is going to give the fish less hook to feel no matter how it is rigged.........
