I saw that video. I still have trouble seeing the fish vs the rocks. We have a real rocky bottom and the rocks and fish look just alike.

Try bringing in the side image to 50' range and see if it shows you a better separation from the rocks to fish. I have gone as low as 30' range on rocky bottom before getting a good separation. Also I have to play/adjust the contrast to help distinguish better sometimes. Also make sure your chart speed match your boat speed. I have mine at 3-5 mph.

I bought my 899 from shutupnfish a few weeks ago. Im a heavy reader I have read and watched everything about it. But nothing like just getting boat time and seat time staring at it and saving modes I like best. I Love graphing fish within 55' if something looks good I surround it and zoom and study what im looking at.Its the best purchase I have made and nothing like passing up one of my holes if its not holding fish.

Lewisvillan,

Are you part of the people who uploaded the SI video? I haven't been called Calvy since 1st grade. What brought that on? hmmm

+1

Countless hours staring at the screen when I first got mine. Can't imagine fishing without it.

Thx, Slime. That's what I'm starting to do now. Learning more each time. I didn't know there was a mode to cut out the water column on the side view. That will help with such a small screen like on the Helix 5 SI GPS.

50-60ft. Side to side in about 2 to 5ft. Of water.
My son hooked into his lake record out of that mess of fish. I believe the smallest was a 13#r. Lots of 20+ and a few 30s. His lake record was 50.45
