What's a good but not to expensive set up. (Around the 200 mark)

Also.... What "top water" do you like to throw? The reason I ask is that a frog rod and a Yellow Magic require completely different set ups so it really depends on what you're wanting to accomplish.

I use flouro all the time...works great. It's really no different than throwing braid on top water frog.

And Jackson is right....but you really only need heavy line and stiff rod if you are frogging in pads and heavy cover. If you are frogging in grass and such you really don't need it.

Braid and fluorocarbon are totally different. Braid floats, fluorocarbon does not. Very key aspect of choosing the right line for topwaters. From my experience, fluorocarbon hurts the action of the bait and tends to pull the nose of the bait down into the water because of the line sinking. Mono for poppers, braid for walking baits and frogs.

I know that flouro "sinks" but it doesn't sink enough to truly make a difference. If you use the right knots on your baits it really doesn't matter. Example use a loop knot on your YM or popR...the knot eliminates any amount of difference made in the line....mono also creates too much memory and that effects your baits more than anything in my opinion. We can go round and round. we're all free to our opinions.

My two cents.

Unless you hold your rod tip up when you're working the bait, fluoro definitely hinders the action of the bait because of the sinking. From my experience, a loop knot doesn't help much, if at all...the line is still going to sink. If you use the right mono, memory won't be an issue (unless it's old line). Braid is the only line that has no memory. The reason sinking line hinders the action is because it causes the bait to dive down instead of popping forward. Yes, it still has action, but not as good as it could be. This is if you point your rod tip down while working you're topwater.

6.6m-7.0m fast tip....7.1 reel....braid or mono depending on lure...hollow or soft plastic topwater frog, use braid...topwater popper or walker use mono or 30# braid...donot use fluoro...it will jack up the functional aspect of your bait.

Agree that flouro changes the action. Good mono or braid is what I use.

Yellow magic- TFO tactical 7'3 medium, Revo STX 7.1 big game 15lb

Frog- I use a couple rods, but main one is Falcon Cara McClelland jig rod, heavy (6) power 7'4". Revo 7.1 with 50lb power pro braid. Although Saturday, I was wishing I had the 7 power Amistad rod in the boat to help get the fish out of the grass on Rayburn.
