What's the "best" single (not treble) bait holding hook for dip and punch baits? Everything I've seen at the sorta local places (Adademy-BassPro-Walmart) is with treble hooks. Too often the rare times I've caught one on a treble it's more trouble than I want to unhook the fish.

I'm not what you could call a catfish fisherman no matter how far you try to stretch the truth. Or any other kind of fisherman for that matter. My normal fishing method is to throw out a line on the bottom for catfish or whatever may be down there, and to actively cast & reel lures for bass or whatever may be off the bottom.

About the only other option you have for a single prong hook is a dip tube

dip tubes suck for punch bait. one way we do it with circle hooks is to use medical mesh, pack it the mesh then hook it on like a chunk of chicken liver

Just depends on what you are going to be using #6 or #8 treble for punch and if you are going to use alot of dip bait get you a roll surgical tubing and punch some holes in it use a kahle hook #1 or #2

When it comes to prepared baits I'd rather use treble hooks.

About treble hooks. A good pair of needle nose pliers goes a long way.

Another thing is to keep a few sizes on hand. If the fish are aggressive and swallowing the hooks, move to a larger size. This will help hook them in the mouth. If the are not really inhaling it, you'll lose fish on a larger hook, so size it down.

Or, there is one fisherman on here who always uses a number 8, expects them to swallow it, and just ties a new hook on for every fish. He collects the hooks later for reuse. Not my cup of tea, but I believe him when he says his catch % went way up.

To me circle hooks are just as hard to remove as trebles. Yeah, needle-nosed pliers are the way to go.

I crimp the barbs down on the treble hooks. makes for much easier removal.
