Recently retired military veteran looking for information (way points, areas, suggestions, etc...) for Lake Georgetown and/or Granger Lake.
Used to boat and fish about 12-15 years ago, pre 9/11 when I had time. Now with my recent retirement have plenty of time and decided to get back into it, but went out a 3 times and caught a total of 6 small black bass less than 8". Feel like a rookie but having a great time just relaxing and throwing lures trying to get the feeling for the bite back.
Living in Round Rock, TX and these lakes are small and the close to me to learn.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Granger is a good lake for catfish and crappie. I've had a couple of people tell me that Georgetown is a wash, but I've never fished it. There is a lot of recreational boating on it but I've never seen much fishing there. My favorite of all the local lakes is LBJ, pretty lake, clean, and constant level, plus there's a great boat ramp and courtesy dock next to the yacht club. $10 to launch, a nice paved parking lot and nobody messes with your stuff.

I live in leander and fish both. Granger is definately the better of the two but neither are good bass fisheries.
Do yourself a favor and fish bastrop, Decker or lake austin for the ditch pickles.
Granger for crappie or catfish.
Georgetown is a scenic lake and good place to play with your electronics while not catching any fish!

Try Inks. I won a bass tournament on Granger many, many years ago (10 fish limit) with almost 30 pound bag, but haven't fished it in years, either. I also had some luck wading the San Gabriel with light tackle.

Granger has bass but it's a mud lake with tons of shad. If you like catfish give it a try. Lots of blues and channels.

I've never had a lot of luck with Decker, Bastrop doesn't seem to have big bass, but a pretty healthy population of 2-4 pounders. You can definetly get some numbers of Bastrop.
