Two weekends ago I decided to do a trip to SE Oklahoma to wade some rivers. I know this is the Kayak forum and usually I kayak these rivers but there just was not enough water to kayak so I waded them. I figured since I usually kayak them and I hang in this forum most of the time that I would post them up here.

As I stated there was not enough water to kayak them. I have never actually seen the rivers so low but it made for some good fishing but some hard wading. Unlike most rivers I have wade fished these rivers are mostly rock bottoms. And I don't mean smooth rock...I mean ankle breaking slip and fall rocks. It was worth the risk but it was hard wading. I was sore for 2 days from the wading.

I caught alot of fish and some very nice smallies. Here are the pictures.

Little River first fish. I always take a pic of the first on because you never know when it will be the only fish you catch.

Some really well-marked fish. That one with the tiger stripes is really lovely!

Looks great. Did you do the whole 40 mile stretch of the Little River? If not, do you have reccomendations on someone that could provide a take out?

If you are talking about the Lower Little River I do not know anything about it.

I fish the upper Little River above Pine Creek Lake.
I do not know anyone who provides shuttles.
Because of the terrain and the remoteness of the river I do not recommend floating it.
You would have to have perfect water flow to float it.
And the take-outs are few and far between and are difficult to locate and access.

I have considered floating the upper between the crossing by Cloudy, OK. and the first ramp on Pine Creek Lake but I have not because of the risks involved and the difficulty of kayaking I have found on other stretches of the river.

It is a beautiful river and it is sad that it is so difficult to kayak fish or wade fish it.

Great post. Love that part of Oklahoma. Big hills and clear cold rivers. Not that far from Dallas. Thanks for sharing. Thanks for the info on the upper Little River.

Cool, post and great pictures. Sounds , like a river I need to check out. I have floated the Upper Mountain Fork in a canoe a bunch of times, and I fell your pain about walking those rivers in low water. The rocks are round, smooth, and slick. Nasty wading at times. We are headed up to Broken Bow in October but with the water being this low we will probably stick to the Lower Mountain fork.

Very cool post. Good variety caught. I'll bet those bronze backs were fun.
