planning on wading around Matagorda soon, just looking for suggestions. will not be doing it very often.

i wear those tan colored everlast(?) ankle high boots with wraparound ray guards.

Those reef guard boots were okay. I would look for some specialty wading boots if you going to be anywhere near oyster beds. Those oyster sliced through them like a hot knife through butter.

I just bought a cheap pair of dive boots (they were like $10 on clearance). You can even just get the socks as long as they have a grip on the bottom. The ray guards are really nice insurance, but I haven't used them in a long time. if you shuffle your feet as you move you typically don't have any problems. That being said there are plenty of people out there that have been hit by rays and my day might be right around the corner...

in the surf, i wouldn't sweat it! how many people go to the beach every day and swim/surf/drink/passout/bonfire/play football etc.
If you're actually shuffling your feet you're going to be ahead of the game. Some wading boots will of course help your cause, but if you're just going for the weekend id just wear a pair of old sneakers or old lace up work boots and be diligent with the shuffle as wading boots can get pretty pricey, especially if you're only going to use them once in a blue moon.
