No it's not what you're thinking, I was fishing a spot between LFM and Big Mustang Sunday close to the guide lane..
It was around 11:00am not much boat traffic, or fish for that matter, when all the sudden I couldn't believe my ear's.
It was two Bob White Quails calling to each other loud and proud. I thought fire ant's and drought's had long since caused their demize. It sure was nice to hear that (Bob White) call, it's been many many years that I've heard one out there.. FYI, hope this don't bore ya..I thought it was cool.

The last time I saw a flight of quail was 10 yrs. old walking the fields of grandfathers' farm. I spooked up a flock of small bird while dove hunting last year and i think they were quail do not know for sure but I saw another flight near Round Top also. They were much small than the pen raised quail I have hunted. Maybe they are making a come back.

Been hearing a few on our neighbor's 40 acres in Big Mustang, Billy. Makes me feel like I'm back in my grandmother's pasture.

As a young boy growing up on Lake Winnsboro we'd hear them every evening sitting on the porch watching the sunset. Never thought they'd fall to the fate of nature they got, Chris those two birds were on the land that back's up to your place. Prolly the same covey cheers

Haven't heard any bobwhite quail in awhile. Liked to listen to whip-poor-wills also.

I think Steve brought those in and turn loose. They are trying to get a covey started on his place.

Rain. Amazing what some timely rainfall, plant, seed and bug life will do for quail populations. That's why when ya got 'em, smoke 'em cuz they may not be here next year.

Im in Baird today and have been working around some ranches out here the past few weeks. The rain definitely has improved the quail population. Ive been seeing them pretty often. The dove are out thick too with all the sunflower growth this year.

rain this year has been GREAT for the population... more this year than in recent memory across the state.
