I did not want to start a heated discussion about what is the best re-power motor, so now i will let you tell me if i made the right choice. Ok, let me have it.

I know they have not been out long enough to make a true reliability testament but the other 4 stroke Merc outboards I have only seen normal maintenance.

All of the 4 strokes are decent motors today. It depends on your application. If is a bass boat the choose the Yamaha 150 SHO. If it any other application then any of the four strokes will work.

I have a 2014 mercury 150 four stroke. It is a nice, clean, simple design. 3.0L inline 4 that is a torquey sun of a gun. Get online and read the articles and reviews about it. I think you will like it if you go with it. Like said...just about all the 4 strokes on the market are good engines. Whoever owns one of any particular brand is just a little biased...but they are all pretty nice.

Man up. Fight the GOOD fight.

Mercury came out with the 150 in 2010 I believe. That makes this year the 5th or 6th year of production. To my knowledge, they have not made any major revisions on the motor since it's introduction according to the reviews I read before I purchased mine in April this year. It seems that they got it right from the start or surely there would be some changes by now. Every article I read and every video I watched spoke highly of the 150. I'm sure some were paid advertisements and some were not....

Here's my unpaid advertisement and opinion of mine:

I ordered a cheap engine hour meter off ebay that uses a wire to wrap around any single spark plug wire to count run time as long as the engine is actually running. So far since April, I have about 75 hours on mine and can say that I absolutely love it. It pull tubes, knee boards and my boat with ease and is very fuel efficient. I still can't get over how quiet it is and it just runs great. I think you made a great choice, I would certainly buy mine again.

I have 312 hours on a 2014. The one before that had 240 and was a 2013. They are great motors. I plan to order a new one soon.
