Headed out to the Colorado River again on a solo trip with my fly rod last weekend. Water was clear and flowing. Didn't expect to catch much of anything, and I didn't. I fished around the rocks and the first set of rapids. Trying out my new fly rod. Total newbie on the fly, but spent some nice quality time outside practicing my casting. Already looking forward to the fall fishing in the YAK!! With my schedule lightening up a bit more right after the first week of November, you can bet I will be out hittin the water around the local lakes and creek!!

I'm with you on being a newbie on the fly fishing. About 2 months ago I went to Beaver's Bend with a fellow who help me get set up fly fishing. I have started catching fish and enjoy it so much. I hope I can spend many more years fly fishing. I just wish I had someone to teach me to fly fish when I was a kid but at 62 I don't think it is too late to start. I certain want to help as many people learn to fly fish as I can so they can enjoy a whole new fishing experience!

My wife bought me an inexpensive Fly Rod combo as a gift when she heard me tell her how I never fly fished in my life and wanted to learn. I picked up the rod and headed to the pond. Picked up a few bream and a small bass. I was hooked. Now I own two rods, but my casting stinks. Practice makes perfect, and I hear the Bass Pro shop holds fly casting lessons on Saturday mornings. I pretty certain I should have posted this on the fly fishing forum, but I yak to my locations and for the most part use I use conventional gear. Good luck to you Rick, happy fishing!

Put in at the Hwy 71 bridge. It's the entry point for the Columbus Paddle Trail. Short stretch of river and not a long paddle. If you need to get to your vehicle quick, its a short paddle back.
