Ok seems after my frog throwing back in the late spring seems I have activated my inflammation in my elbow went to the Dr. and he called it golfers elbow since its on the inside upper of my joint in my elbow, been fighting threw the pain for the past few months finally pain got to be about 9-10 so went to the dr few weeks ago, after icy hot and ben gay didn't work and the tennis elbow brace didn't work either and he gave me some steroids but that doesn't seem to help so back to the dr Tuesday for a shot. just wondering what if anybody who has this and what did you do to get rid of it if anything.

thanks
Jeff

Have you had an MRI of the affected area?

You may need to see a specialist aka Orthopedic surgeon, to diagnose accurately and treat the affected area. It may need rest, injections, or surgery. I would have your primary physician refer you to an OS for a more accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment.

Had it bad last year. Had to quit fishing for a few months and you have to make yourself remember to keep your arm straight. Simply sleeping would reaguvate it. Good luck cause it took me a long time yo get it right.

Had it myself. Could not even set a hook without it hurting. Ask you primary care DOC for a prescription of methylprednisolone.
It is a steroid and it works wonders. You will take 6 the first day 5 the second 4 the third and so on until you are done with
the pack. Cleared up the inflammation in about a week and a half. Took care of any other aches I had. Try it, you will thank me
later.

I still have it pretty bad, but have found something that works well and fast - almost pain free by applying once a day. Its called "PanAway", by Young Living.
You can find it online, but my wife is a Young Living salesperson. She works hard at it but doesn't sell enough to pay for the products she/we use. So she could use the sales. PM me if interested.

that's what was prescribed to me and not working. I was really throwing the frog and popping my elbow so I know that's what aggravated it. haven't been fishing that much. will have to remember to not pop my elbow when I throw it really hard and try to keep my arm straight. maybe just need to pick up a new technique like drop shot or spooning lol.

Man.. I feel your pain! Rest and that tennis elbow brace are about all I know of that really helps it. I know it didn't help you much before, but you can't keep on using that elbow like you were and it heal up. Good luck

You need to consult your PCP and in conjunction with medrol pack take a non steroidal Antiinflamitory and use ibuprofen when you have a flare up or plan on going fishing take it 800 mg prior to and after.

Here is a device that I recommend highly for all strains, pulls and aching muscles. Also light pressure on the forearm muscle with the tennis elbow band helps a bunch.

I've had the fishing/tennis elbow problem twice over many years. The first time a chiropractor told me it was my wrist that was causing the pain in my elbow. Wore a band around it (wrist) for a week or so and everything got better. The last time, a few years ago, I just didn't fish so hard and made much easier and less casts. It took much longer to improve but eventually went away entirely.

A good rule of angling philosophy is not to interfere with another fisherman's ways of being happy, unless you want to be hated.

Overuse or over stress of the elbow/forearm muscles and ligaments can lead to Lateral or Medial epicondylitis or both and it is very painful. Small tears in the ligament causes the pain and inflammation. Ligaments heal very slowly so resting the painful area is needed. Taking steroids will generally give some immediate relief but for the long term, healing is key. You will most likely benefit from a change in your casting and or retrieve action so the stress that's causing the problem is lessened on those ligaments.

I hope yours isn't as bad as mine was. I couldn't even crappie fish. Hell taking a gallon of milk out of the fridge caused extreme pain. Shots did nothing nor did ibuprofen. A lot of not using that arm was the only thing that helped. I should have had tommy john surgery in hs. Setting the hook would cause my arm to go limp and excruciating pain.

Not sure if it is a joint problem for you but what you are describing sounds like what happened to me as well this past spring. My outside left forearm towards the wrist was killing me. Then I remembered a couple of years ago I was in a 6 weeks biggest looser competition at work and about half way thru my knees were toast (swimming 1 mile for lunch and playing 3 hours of basketball after work). I thought I was going to have to see a doctor and looking at major problems. One of the guys in the competition "work out buff" told me about Glucosamine. I figured why not, it is basically ground up chicken cartilage, and 1 week later me knees felt alot better, ended up loosing about 40 lbs..... Its back now.......... Long story short when any joints start to hurt I start taking Glucosamine and it helps lube up the joints and strengthen the tendons and I feel alot better. I should probably take it all of the time but I do not think about it when I am feeling good. You can find it at any vitamin or supplement store or online. If it was me I would spend the $15 or $20 and give it a week or two before I went to the doctor. Just my 2 cents.

I have had it several times. Last time I had both tennis elbow and golfers elbow which I never heard of. Don't golf or play tennis. My pain was so bad could not even pick up cup of coffee with right arm. Went Dr he recommended physical therapy at fist for a month. Lots of stretching and massage. Luckily the girls at the PT clinic were hotties. Did not mind going 3 times a week. After a month went back to Dr, the inside tendon was much better, but the outside tendon still hurt like heck. Got the shot in the tendon and all was good.
Here is what they recommended to me to prevent re-injury. While sitting on the couch watching football or whatever, take a 5 # weight, rest your arm on your knee and do wrist curls up and down with your palm facing down. Go till you can do no more, rest and repeat. I do this each winter, and have not have a problem since. Simple fix for a very painful problem
