The academy close to me has had 5/0 4/0 3/0 gamakatsu flipping hooks on clearance for 0.68 a pack for nearly a year. They are $5-$6 a pack at-least anywhere else. I never questioned it and have bought over a 100 packs. Just like a $9 rod, sometimes they dont care on taking a loss.

This might be the only time I ever agree with you!

I can't call a good deal a violation of one's morals and/or values. It would have been different if he had done something to manipulate/create the good deal.

Another reason Academy does this on discontinued rods is because of their liberal exchange policy. If you don't have a receipt, their policy on bringing back a broken rod that is discontinued is that they will give you store credit for the last price the rod was sold for at Academy. So when they have a little bit of inventory left on a discontinued model, they mark it down to $9.99. That way, when someone brings back a broken Omen that they bought off Tackle Warehouse and says "I don't have my receipt", they can check the last selling price of that rod and the person gets $9.99 in store credit instead of a new $99 rod.

There was no mistake
In order for the UPC to ring up at $9.99 someone had to enter it into the computer for it to scan that way.
There is no integrity question here.
Earlier posters are very quick to criticize.
He just found a great deal.

I would have done the same thing. How many times have they done that? You never know if they priced the item correctly. They may have over priced with the wrong tag on some items and you paid it. You never know. Most of you guys complaining would have done the same thing. I sure in the heck would have.

Thanks,

About 20 years ago a small local Walmart was relocating and had a lot of stuff on clearance so they did not have to move the stuff. I found a Lew's David Fritts fiberglass cranking rod in a bin for $5.00. I asked the manager and he confirmed the price. Bought the rod. used it for cranking for almost 20 years but broke it last summer. Sad day!

Even if the price is a mix up they will still sell it to you at that price... But will pull the rest to be corrected. That was a great find!

I scored a pretty good deal in Galveston two weeks ago. A Castaway 7' Skeleton for $99, it was marked down from $170 or 180, last one they had so I scooped it up. Felt like winning to me woot
