10 years ago, When I was paddling 4-5 days a week solo, I bought and enjoyed a SPOT tracking device. I paid for the tracking service so that my sponsors could track my actions and know that I was putting it out there for them.

After the first year they tagged my bank account for almost $500 without telling me and I terminated my relationship[ with them. They gave me a refund and pointed out that my initial small print agreement said they could have their way with me, but I still have a very sour taste in my mouth from dealing with them.

I know there are several competitive alternatives now (besides much better cell service than we had then) but would still like to get a tracking device independent of my cell phone.

If you have any personal experience with any one else, I would love to hear your opinions or experience. I may just go back to SPOT for basic service only. I know my redhead and my cardiologist would appreciate me keeping one.

Thanks, Phill

I have been looking for the same reason, it looks to me like all of them are charging 10-20$ a month based on the way you renew and what services you want. I would like to know if anyone is using anything other than spot and what their experiences are. All the friends I have that use devices like this are on spot and they recommend them.
