I have had a 8 foot powerpole for a long time now and love it. the 10 foot powerpoles just look bad to me. want to hear from the guys that have made the switch to the 12 foot or even the 10 foot talon. Which do you like better? does the 12 foot really hold you in 12 foot? Or is it more like 10 foot?

If the 10ft poles look bad to you why would you consider 10ft or 12ft talons that are still upright even when deployed? That's still 4-5ft of back deck disabling towers, yeah?

I don't personally see how anyone chooses talons for that reason alone, but I suppose the back deck isn't of grave concern for most people... I do know I would struggle to find a way to damage powerpoles but would easily damage talons which means it's an easy choice for me. I want whatever if harder to break lol

the 10 foot poles stick up way past the motor. the talon does not. i cant have anthing taller than what i have now for storage reasons. i know the quality of the power pole is great i do own one.

I went from 8' Power Poles to 1 12' Talon, love it. Get the tilt bracket as well.

The talons have a tilt bracket... So how could storage be an issue??

10' Talons are only about 3 1/2' Tall and normally sit flush with the motor cowling when the motor is trimmed down. If I was to swap to Talons I would choose the 10' for the smaller profile and no need of tilt brackets.

I have 2- 12' talons and have never had a prob with them. When my partner fishes with me, he's usually on the front deck with me. They will only hold me in 10' FOW. Anything deeper than that, I just hear them scraping along the bottom.

Storage solution without having to change to a product you prefer less, if interested. I was under the impression it was purely aesthetic preference from you saying you don't like the 10ft blades look and like the compact look of the talon more, not that it was so much a space constraint.

10 foot poles are the issue

That would be my main concern is max depth holding, and the fact that the talons can be damaged where the poles can't really. The talons seem like the simpler device with less invasive install and fewer moving parts perhaps, but the anchor itself, the physical anchor of the boat, is more susceptible to failure on the talons which is what would worry me. I also hate that they still block the back deck deployed. Sharing the front deck is cool sometimes but not always practical and not everyone has 20+ft rigs necessarily even when shopping for spendy shallow water anchor systems.

Technically he didn't "make the switch" as you initially ask, he just said he has talons, and I don't think anyone made it into a debate. I asked you a question for more information, which you provided (storage constraint not previously listed in your needs) and could aid in getting better info/feedback from talon owners.

If your mind is that made up just go get them, why start a discussion about it? Google only provides you answers for the question as provided. You could try there if you want narrower input perhaps. Otherwise, my question lead to someone stating the 10ft would be advisable without the bracket, but the 12ft would likely need the bracket for storage, and that the 12ft only holds in 10FOW, which we can assume means the 10ft won't likely give oyu much more holding depth than your current 8ft pole which you said you like, you just want deeper holding power, without being impossible to store, and without being physically larger on the back of the boat in use for aesthetics.

I'd say the extra probing for information payed off very well.

i have seen talons stuck down. i have seen people have to tie up their power pole. i have had my relay go out on my pole making it get stuck down. they all have their issues at some ponint. my 8 foot pole i really need to be in 6 1/2 to not move. thats why i asked about the real holding depth on the 12 talon. i simply wanted to see if people were happy making the switch.

Some solid feedback here with similar questions to yours. The difference in holding is that is your powerpole is slipping, it isn't making a ton of racket and exploding from dragging and bouncing because the anchor itself isn't a moving component, so while the PP has fewer, what it does have are more likely to be damaged through regular intended use.

The PowerPole people are top notch for customer service as well when it comes to fixing any issues that arise from the more complex hydraulic deployment system, and they are easy to work on as well. I am certain Minn Kota's customer service is second to none as well, just form owning their trolling motors.

All of that said, if you got an extra foot of holding power from the 10ft talon over the 8ft blade at best, would you be happier with the talons? If so, given the criteria present, I would say that would be the decision you are making in the end.

like i said he read my whole post and answedred on of my questions. you have done nothing but argue where there is no argument just a man with a question. you have helped none.
