I've been using Red Label and Invisix and are happy with both but always looking for something
better. Any lines out there that are more supple, have less memory and are generally more
manageable on a spinning reel.

i just got back from a spinning gear intensive trip to st clair - our guide Art Ferguson recommended 20# braid + 8-10lb fluoro leader for the ultra-clear conditions there (we could see the bottom in 18' in many places). I went with suffix 832 on the braid and about a 10' section of seaguar 10# blue label leader material. Never had to worry about line twist and we didn't have trouble getting bit, so the fish weren't spooked by the braid main line. Also never broke a fish off, and we caught big smallies, several drum in the 10# range, and 2 northern pike.

that doesn't answer your question directly, but i don't think i will spool up straight fluoro on a spinning reel from here forward.

Definitely try braid to fluoro leader--best of both worlds.

also i had never tried the "leader material" vs. the main line. I bought the leader material after doing some research - basically for a given # strength the diameter is smaller, abrasion resistance is better, and it is designed to take a shock load on a shorter section of line. previously i always used a piece off a spool of main line, but i think i will stick with the leader material from now on. it is expensive per foot, but using short sections it is a lot cheaper than spooling full of fluoro.

Similar to what Ted has said, I have had great success using the newer Nano line from Berkeley that's designed for spinning rods. It behaves itself on the spool and you just tie a fluoro leader to it for the best of both worlds.

Sunline Finesse FC


This is hands down, the best flouro for a spinning reel. There isn't one thing that I don't like about this line.

Braid with flouro leader is the way to go with spinning, Sunline Finesse is great as is Tatsu.

I just returned from a five day canoe/fishing trip in the Quetico Provincial Park in Canada and I used 8-pound P-Line copolymer on my spinning rod and had no line twist problems. It is floro coated. I caught loads of smallmouth in tap water clear water using this stuff. I really like it.

I run 10 lb seaguar on all my spinning outfits. One big tip I can give is don't fill a spinning real up much more than you can cast. This will help with the over spin. Also about every two days tie the line to a tree and back up allowing the drag to pull the line straight this will help with line twists

I like 15lb. Power Pro with a 10lb. or 12lb. Invisix leader. I use that for most of my spinning setups. If you do use straight flouro, put it on in the correct direction, do not fill the spool, use KVD Line Conditioner, and if possible, use a reel with a larger diameter spool. Also, if you do get a "blowout" with the straight flouro, DO NOT PANIC. It can be cleaned up just like a backlash.
