I have a 7'6" casting rod that I love using in the surf, however somewhere along the way on my last trip 3 of the eyelets inserts popped out. How do I go about removing the old eyes to replace them with new ones? I have replacements I just don't know how to get the old ones off....

Eventually, luck will change. Skills, however, can be honed, added to, and improved.

Are you talking about removing the three guides?

Probably have to replace the whole guide. I don't think you can replace just the insert.

Yes I am talking about replacing the whole guide, sorry for the confusion. I have a pack of casting guides that seem a little sturdier that the ones on there currently, so if it's not too difficult I may just replace them all instead of just the three, but it would be a shame if I couldn't fix the rod since it's still in good condition.

Use a razor blade and score the epoxy over top the guide foot so you don't cut into the blank...afterwards you can use a lighter to heat up the epoxy and begin peeling it off and then you can remove the thread as well...might want to mark where the guide is before you remove it

We do rod repair here and you can contact me if you have any questions.

Thanks for that info! So if I enjoy repairing this rod, what's a good place to start my own rod building? Iv always been interested just never knew where to start
