We spent last week in Branson and had a great time. The weather was pleasant as well as the company and a shout out to my gf for letting me fish as I wanted. They were running water most of the time as Tablerock is still over pool so being the first time on the tailwater at that cfm was a little tough. We rented a Grizzly tracker CC for all day Tuesday and while it took a bit for me to figure out the drift and fish thing we did pretty good. The morning was foggy and took me a while to navigate up to the dam but once there we threw white 1/8 oz.jigs and landed a few rainbow. Once the afternoon hit we began a long drift with night crawlers and got some good Browns then off the water by 4:00 and to this point haven't got any on the fly but I was determined to change that. Robert Hunter gave me the tips on where and when to night fish so anyone that knows him knows to listen to what he has to say and it didn't disappoint. I arrived at the spot at 11:00pm and fished til 3:00am catching only a couple but missed at least six due to my inexperience on the trout bite, especially in swift water. Thursday night was the best as after speaking with Robert and getting more advice I arrived at the spot again at 11pm with no one else in sight to a dark, foggy cool night. With a waterfall next to me and a meteor shower happening above me I made my first cast and hooked into a big one that made a run and while I couldn't see it I heard a splash that sounded like someone threw a boulder into the water then my line snapped. I stood there for a moment with a grin and retied and made more casts missing a few then finally yes I hooked one and got it on the rocks and landed! It was only a 12"er but my first night bow. At this point it was about 2:00am and after a few more casts I hooked another good one and it fought hard but I was determined so played it out and got it up to the rocks then turned on my cap light and wow an 18-20"er, biggest Rainbow ever for me but while reaching down it decided it had one big shake left and again snap went the line but I feel that if I had had a net there would be pictures of it. Robert told me to use bigger tippet but all I had was 5x so, lessons learned, have a net, wade in away from the rocks and use 6-8lb line. I can't wait to go back and a big shout out to one of the best anglers I know..thanks Robert I had a blast!

Hey glad to help you should have told me in that tippet would have rolled you some 4x on a spool. Gla the second night improved. That is when the big ones come out for sure.

What a great report! That's a big piece of what fishing is about in my opinion, sharing what you know to help others have a fine time as well.

For sure!!! Formula even if just a few days hope you can make the fall trip. I have another buddy that may bring his girlfriend as well that is one of the craziest trout trips you will ever take. Don't forget to get me the pics if you can and I'll help you post them if I need too. Props to your girl as well for letting you out but like I said that trip works out great because you can go and do with them all they want and then get out and fish at night if you can handle the lack of sleep. I luck out because when we camp my girl likes to sleep in so I can get in late she finally pokes me to wake up in the morning and I can cook breakfast on the fire:)
