Took my 10 yo to the lake yesterday. We got there around 4 pm, hot 95 degree made my boy wanting to go swimming instead. The water was surprisingly cool we were swimming almost for two hours... Around 6pm we finally decide to go try our luck at a wind blown point... First net cast caught 6 palm sized gizzard shad and too many threadfin shad... also brought some blue gills, so got 5 poles out rigged fish finder rigs with one hook a foot off bottom and another 2.5 feet above, all baited live gizzard shad or blue gills, 3 to 5 foot of water... I usually cast out much further away from the bank if I wanted to catch quality fish in summer, but this new water got me skunked once too many times so something got to give, lol... anyway, nothing wanted to come those big baits so I downsized them with 4" gills on bottom hooks. Also took out two small poles for whites bass caught a few healthy blue dinks,... From 6-9:30 pm, a few dinks that was it. As I was reeling up the poles ready to go home one of my 10' poles bend and shook... this little guy took the 4" blue gill in 3 fow.

Thank you Big Sam. We had fun in the water ... Hope you don't mind me asking a dump question, when Arkansas fishing regulations talking about BREAMS do y'all mean blue gills? Also is there law against bringing bait fish across state line? I want to try my luck at Millwood Lake for some flathead b4 summer is over. Thanks again.

7 or 8 lb, lol, my big fish for August

That's about the size of the one I took home Sunday then. I said on the way out if I caught a flathead I was eating it, first fish 7-8lb flat. Good eating

good catch! i wonder if this sudden temp drop is temporary or are we finally getting the fall weather.

We'll be back in the upper 90's by next week.

I might have to give it a try in the morning with this north wind just to see if it affects the bite.

Didn't change the channels for the kids this evening. Same place, same bait, same depth.

Thanks BankFishinDave and everyone's kind words I did like we always do when we go fishing trying to catch fish, usually when things were slow the white bass or yellow bass bass would keep us going.... This year has been strange, even those little sidelines don't want to play... by the time I reeled up the little flatie, my son was long in our suv, had finished his snacks and getting ready to sleep. He was a little tired from the swimming but he did say we had fun and should have swam longer.
