Was readying father in laws boat to sell (1989 Kingfisher with 40hp evinrude) and found transom is rotted. No real surprise I guess. This boat is one of the sleek narrower bass boats. I've browsed the web and it appears transom repair costs outweigh fixing this thing prior to sell. My question:: Any new state of the art news in transom repair or is it still time/labor consuming? Realistically I figure Im looking at parting out the motor trailer and troll motor and hauling boat to landfill.

You can probably do a rebuild with seacast for a few hundred dollars and a lot of hours of work. It may or may not be worth it. You will have to remove the engine, chainsaw all the bad material out, and repair it with seacast. Do a search for seacast and you will see some of the guys that have done it. I believe it works well if you don't mind doing the work. Good luck.

picture of transom and I can tell ya if a seacast repair will work, may just be a marine plywood type and that is much easier.
did my champion with seacast and it is not all that hard but does take some time, took me 3 days in a buds shop and I have experience doing glass work as well. figure 4-5 days at least if you part time it.
need a picture of it first though.

I appreciate the responses. I have decided to sell off the motor, troll motor, electronics, and trailer and trash the boat. I guess if someone wanted a project boat this would be a good one.I dont have the time nor a real desire to work on the transom. Hop, I looked into the SeaCast stuff. That was interesting. I have included a picture so as to see the style and transom. 1989 Evinrude 40hp model E40TLCEC with factory tilt and all cables (stick steer)...Minn Kota Maxxum 24volt 55# foot control, and a Red River brand single axle trailer. Boat is a 1989 Kingfisher 15-15.5 foot sleek narrow boat. What I call a "crappie boat".

If you change your mind, a pourable transom is the way to go. Isn't hard to do, removing all the wood is the hardest part but once it is poured, it is stronger than the original. Seacast is probably the best known but there are other brands out there that are much easier to deal with and less messy. It is about a $300-400 repair.
