I think most of us fish to win. If it were about just making a check, many would have given up long ago. It is great to get a check, but none of us can really afford to just fish for a check. Heck, if it were about the money, most of us would never enter a tournament at all. Its dam near impossible, or lets say a statistical improbability that most of the dorks on the TFF made any money fishing tournaments last year if they put real costs into the equation.

I think TdRoss mentality is what keeps most good fisherman from being great fisherman. We all seem to want it packaged up very neatly for us and if the bow is on crooked, were not going to participate. Everyone seems to love to compete but no one likes the actual competition.

I don't see how most of them could actually be in the red if they never enter a derby..

Actually it is a money invested versus potential return issue. What TDRoss is saying is investing $450 to win $250 means I lost $200 before launching the boat. I can bank the $450, spend $250 on fun-fishing and come out $200 ahead. If you want to fish as an individual sign up for team tournaments that have a good number of boats and have at it. I do.
