I have a couple compartment lids that are off the hinge. The screws are stripped out of the lid. I have tried longer screws but the lids are hollow so that did not help. The screws that stripped are already a bigger size than original and I am hesitant to go with bigger screws. I can not use nuts and bolts cause the holes go above the lip and into the hollow area. Any tricks to fixing this? I have a 2002 Ranger 195VS.
Appreciate it.

You might take a little glue and wood peg to fill the hole and then screw into it.

They make small Molly Wing bolts used for sheet rock. The small ones are hard to find. You might also try the Plastic or lead mollies to insert in the whole then put in the screw. They spread and hold fairly tight. The best fix is fiber Glass sheeting and resin. Cut to fit the area. Mix the resin and fill the wholes. Reinforce the wall with the fiber glass sheeting and resin, then redrill a smaller hole than the screws you want to use.

can you share a picture? Would help determine a fastener solution. Not fully understanding why you can't use a through bolt with a nut, or perhaps a clip on captive nut/screw insert piece such as one of those options:

Thanks for the help. I will try wing bolts or mollies. If they do not work I will come back fully loaded with pics. Shocked me to discover that where the screws go inside the lid it is hollow. So when I put a bolt through the hole it goes inside the lid and there is not access to put a nut on.

Inside the lid should be foam. I would think about injecting resin or epoxy and adding a size larger screw. Might consult with Ranger about the lids. They can be very helpful.

The very best advise here so far is call Ranger. You'll be amazed at what they will do. First owner, second, third - doesn't matter. However, the way to fix them is to get a pop-rivet gun and an assortment of aluminum rivets. The hinges on my 520, and my son's 519 are screwed to the boat, and riveted to the lids. They are hollow, and because how a rivet works, it expands from the back side (inside the lid) and from the front to tighten. I've had a few get loose, and the rivets work just fine. Do yourself a favor, and get a quality rivet gun. A cheap one is frustrating, and doesn't grip to pull tight, and make tight connections. Also, besure to cut the old rivets out before you replace them. Hope this helps,
