I recently got asked to leave the ponds at Research Park in College Station by UPD...which is too bad because they are darn good bass ponds. You can sit and catch 1.5 - 3.5 pounders all day, which makes for a good couple hours after work. I've always fished the closest 4 ponds to University Drive because there are no "No Fishing" signs there...the other few do have signs. Anyways, in the process of catching my 10th fish of the morning, an officer comes up behind me and scares the hell out of me, and asks for my license and ID. The front treble on my lipless crank had two of the three hooks set, and it was a booger to get out, even with my pliers...officer probably thought I was a total noob. I gave him the requested items and (very kindly, I will admit) he began to explain that while there are not signs present anymore, they used to be there and have been stolen over the years. I guess we spent too much on that damn stadium to afford new signage. Anyways he said that the concern was with the fertilizer runoff that drains into the ponds and that they didn't want to run the risk of people consuming contaminated fish (I do catch and release only but that doesn't matter I suppose). He said they were trying to spread the word by mouth, and sorry but make sure and not fish here anymore, and then sent me on my way. Thought I'd let those of you in the area know so no one gets in any unnecessary trouble.

Lol he lied to u about why not to fish there.... They don't want people there because it looks "trashy" to have people fishing in their nice park.

Well whatever the reason it's a damn shame they're actually enforcing it now. That's my favorite spot in town hands down. Most days you can go cast underneath the bridge separating the 3rd and 4th ponds and catch all the fish your heart desires.

I used to take my dog there on Sunday afternoons. Never thought to fish there. I know they have some kind of prized carp running around in there that are part of a study but this is all from over 10 years ago.

I guess they don't want some of the south gate crowd sitting shoulder to shoulder with stink bait and beer cans littering the shore. Can't really blame them.

Yeah I suppose I can understand the logic behind it. It sure does suck for those of us that used it properly and respectfully though. I guess it only takes a few bad apples...

Why can't they make it "artificial lures" only?
