Is there a place to go on here anywhere to answer basic beginner questions for lure building?

Welcome. What kind of lures, hard plastic, soft plastic, wire? Lots of folks here with plenty of helpful info.

I am the spinner bait and jig custom builder. Be glad to answer questions on those two subjects.

I'd like to start with crank baits. I'm not currently interested in building them from scratch, I just want to paint and add my own hooks. Maybe a mix of plastic and balsa. I always end up changing hooks out on new ones anyway, so I might save a little cash by doing it this way. I may not save any money and I'm not much of an artist, but I still like to tinker.

There are a lot of books available with tons of info. Best place to start is get a book on lure crafting.

Hard to give you good advise on what you need to get started without knowing what you want to spend. Like most things the sky is the limit, that being said you can get a decent set up for around 150-200 for brush, compressor, paint etc. Or you can spend the same on just the brush. There are alot of ways to save money and still produce very fishable baits. I started with a master's airbrush that I bought in a set off Amazon with the compressor, brush, 12 paint colors and a few other little accessories for 179. Not the best stuff out there, but it gets the job done. If your wanting something a little better then take a look at the iwata neo at hobby lobby use the 40% off coupon and get it for less that 50 bucks. Paint is the same was wiked colors and createx is nice for 4-5 a bottle or you can get applebarrel, Americana, etc at Walmart or hobby lobby for 1-2 bucks a bkttle.

I just want to monkey around with it for now, not interested in tying up a lot of money in it. Thanks for the info.
