We decided to do a quick gar trip and got to the spot about 12:00am and fished till 5:00am. Bait used was tilapia, perch, shad, and leopard frogs. We ended at catching 2 spotted gar and 1 alligator gar. All gar caught were on leopard frogs. My wife caught the only alligator gar of The trip a 59 1/2incher. It would have been over 5ft if it had all of its tail.

Thanx for the replies! It fought like a tarpon with multiple head shakes and tailwalks despite it missing most of its tail. It was an old wound and was healed over. I'm thinking alligator theres lots of em there... the frogs, we had caught the trip before and were frozen
