This will be the 6th bass tournament that I created to held weed out the smaller or undersized bass on Lake Bastrop. **Per Marcos De Jesus, Biologist at TPWD, he said a harvest size bass of 10" to 13.99" is best for keeping. So, I have a open bass tournament and fish fry scheduled for Saturday, August 15th at the South Shore Park on Lake Bastrop. If interested in fishing tournament and/or attending fish fry, please let me know and I can provide more information. After the tournament is over, we will fry up the "Unders" or below slot fish starting around 2pm. I allow big engine trolling, pleasure boats, bass boats and kayaks. It is a fun tournament!

This type of tournament should be held at other Texas lakes.

Good stuff will try and make it but schedule is crazy, is it a team deal?

Should do one of these on Fayette every month!

My family is expecting me to show up for our family reunion or I would be all over this. I guess I better make an appearance and keep happiness in the family.

[u]You can put as many people in a kayak, bass or ski boat, pontoon boat that the coast guard allows.. This way we can take as many fish (Unders) for fish fry. Only weigh your top 5 for tournament.

As of 9:51am on Thursday,

We are good with Fryers.

Those that want to bring a canopy, I would hold them in the car. We normally setup under a bunch of trees. If we cannot get that spot, then we would need the canopies. For those not going to the tournament and can get to the park before noon, please set up in the area closest to boat ramp. I will and mark a table or two with the help of the park attendants. Fish Cleaning will start around 12:45pm and fish frying around 1:30pm.

At this time we have 29 signed up for helping/going to fish fry.

At this time we have 13 boats for bass tournament. (22 fishermen) At this moment, 1st pays $312.00 and 2nd pays $208

If we reach 15 boats, we will pay 3 places..

Forecast is calling for early morning temp in low to mid 70's and highs in mid to upper 90's. The fish fry will be help in dense trees and shade so it will not feel too hot.

I recommend bringing your own chairs and drinks/ice chests.

I have another obligation on Saturday that prevents me from participating, but I would really like to take part in a future event in my region. How does one stay posted if this event were to become an ongoing thing? Thanks.

Thanks to the 13 boats that weathered the heat on Lake Bastrop. It was a much smaller turn out I believe due to the heat. There was quite a bit of schooling action on the southern end of the lake, intake cove, About 10-15 boats were fishing the schooling bass on topwater. Saw several boats reeling in fish left and right. All slots though.

First place had 5 unders for 5.68lbs for $312.00 (OT RAY, GEORGE, RODNEY)

Second and only other fishermen to turn in fish, 1 bass for 1.08lbs for $208.00

Thanks... to TTZ (Brian Booker/Jake Read/john Ward) for weighing the few bass and being on call in case of an over.. If interested in more bass tournament, contact Brian Booker and his tournaments are a blast!
Water temp 97 degrees. Air temp was 75 early and 96 by noon..

Thanks again for coming.
