A couple years back I was unhooking a 5 lb bass I had just landed a snake crawled out onto my arm.

All I can say is that you are way too slow. Many years ago I caught a bass, lifted it in the boat and clamped it between my knees. Reached down to lip the fish and a snake popped out of its mouth. Snake never touched me. I jumped up and to the side and the snake landed on the bottom of the boat. I don't clamp bass between my knees anymore...........

If I ever catch a bass with a snake in its mouth, that bass will be swimming with said lure, line, rod and reel still attached to it for a long time. I HATE HATE HATE snakes.
