The water was completely slick when I started fishing this morning. An hour or so later, there was a slight ripple. The bite was good on a 1/32 oz. jig with worms in shallow water over scattered hydrilla. I put 16 on a stringer, then culled or released fish afterward. Started at 7:00. Between 8:30 and 9:00, I noticed that they slowed way down. I continued to catch a fish every 6 or 8 cast until I quit to come home at about 10:30. I had intended to quit sooner, but every fish I catch makes me want to continue fishing. After the bite slowed down, I tried a drop shot rig, and then tried a 1/16 oz. jig. Nothing worked as well as the 1/32 oz. jig with its slow fall and a very slow retrieve. In other locations, I'm sure a bottom rig would work better. Filleted the fish and look forward to some bluegill dinners. As Banker would say, it just doesn't get any better.

Thank you Banker. Fished for bass with my buddy Tuesday, in his boat, and didn't get a bite. So today was much more fun. I'm so glad most freshwater fishermen are on the bass bandwagon, leaves all the sunnies for we perch jerkers. LOL

Good looking haul. The fish are still in their bright colors.

The float tube sounds like fun. My wife would have a heart attack if I tried that.

Last week I was fishing some docks on Dunlap and was keeping a few for dinner. A buddy of mine who is a "Die Hard" Bass Angler pulled up and we started to talk. He had a friend of his with him. I asked how they were doing and he said the bite was slow. They had fished for two hours and only boated three fish. My buddy asked me how I was doing and I told him I had ten nice fat Bluegill ready for the frying pan and that I had caught well over 30 fish. Needless to say my buddies friend asked me if I would like a fishing partner for the rest of the afternoon.I had an extra ultra light rig and He fished the docks with me for about two hours until it almost got dark and he took 15 nice Bluegill home with him for dinner. Love that Bluegill fishing! fish

Nice FTID! cheers Float tubing and other small craft is a blast! Did you happen to check their stomach contents to see what they were munching on? I always try to do that every time I bring some home.

No, I didn't check Jagg. Never really thought about checking the belly of a sunny.

Get some very good information about their feeding habits which in turn might lead you to some other places where you can find em feeding. Great "Intel" ! thumb

Noticed a lot of grasshoppers out and about!
Bet there may be a few of those in those sunnies!
That's an impressive haul! thumb

Just one more cast!

Thanks Jimbo. Hope they stay in this spot all summer. I can't go very far in a float tube. I know some other good spots, but can only get to them by boat, and I no longer have one.
