Thinking about going to Bonham Lake this week. Is the only place to buy a boat permit at the Java Joint by the ramp? Looks like they dont open until 8 am. Was hoping to get on the water quite a bit earlier than that.

Anywhere else I can get a permit or online?

Fished Saturday, managed 3 with one at 4lbs; overall pretty tough.

Has anyone actually been checked for their permit? I have been fishing Bonham for years and never ever seen anyone get checked? at least the permit is cheap try buying a permit for Moss near Gainesville!!!

I have been fishing Bonham for 15 years and have never been checked. That said, I always buy one. I'm sure it helps with ramp/park maintenance.

I have never been checked either. It just amounts to a one time launch fee.

Game warden asked for mine a few years ago. When I went to get it from the storage compartment, it was expired. Oops. He made a point that I could not have it in storage but had to be affixed to the boat. Then he wrote me a ticket listed my hair color as "silver". Talking about adding insult to injury. Lol

Fished Bonham this past Sunday. Caught 8. I had a 4# and my wife a 5#. The rest were pretty small. We had to fish pretty hard. With the water dropping pretty quick now, the fishing has gotten tougher. Patterns from earlier this summer with the water up are no longer working.

I didn't even know you had to have a lake permit to be on it. Will remember that for next time.

When the lake is full the channel cats bite good. Never fished it for ditch pickles.
