Hey guys. Looking for a little advice. Looking to do a trip down to El Salto and was thinking maybe in Nov or Dec. Has anyone every went down during those two months and if so how was the fishing? Would it be better to just go in Jan or Feb?

We did October last year and it was OK, no BIG fish.
Got a group doing Salto 2 days and Picachos 3 days in February on the full moon and spawn! Through Ron Speed, 3 spots left.

I have heard December can be great for shallow water and topwater. Seems like that would be a good prespawn time.

Last Dec. El Salto was fantastic. Good numbers and many big fish. My biggest was 11 # 4 oz. and she had already spawned. Already b ooked and going again this Dec. with Pro Bass Adventures.

Oh my that is a hog. What types of baits were you throwing that time of year. Was it your basic lizards and flukes?

Talk to Doug King with Pro Bass adventures he'll give you hole scoop no BS. I want to go in Feb 2016 but my partner backed out. Still waiting on another friend to confirm but not holding my breath.

bassfishin24 - Weightless white Zoom magnum fluke w/ 7/0 hook (that got the 11 # 4 oz. above) but I caught several over 10# on the largest silver and blue Pop-R with # 2 hooks, and also caught several on the largest sexy shad lip-less crank-bait and even more on the Scrounger 3/4 oz. head with the white fluke. Those worked best for me but the other guys in the group caught them on a bit of everything you can think of. Carolina rigs, big worms, Zara spooks, etc. Doug King with Pro Bass Adventures will send you a tackle list appropriate for the time period you wish to go. This is one of the ones on the Pop-R top-water.

Thanks for the info Bluebonnet. I was actually down there last Feb with BigBassFishingMexico (Txstoby) who use El Salto Lodge. Had an amazing time down there and will be going with BigBassFishingMexico again. We had a cold front and rain show up on the day we got there so fishing was slow right away and by the last day fishing picked up. I just have heard really good things about December fishing. Actually booking the trip this week! Excited to get back down there.
