Several times now when I've begun to wrap the chenille (pulling snugly) the thread and everything underneath turns on the hook shaft. Any idea on why this is happening and how to stop it?

What kind of thread are you using? Round thread can cause that...

Round sewing thread. I've used this same one before and it worked fine.

The thread is not tight on the hook. May try using a little glue to hole it.

Yep, you can put a little super glue on it, or get you some flat waxed thread...

I started out using sewing thread too, just add some Sally Hansen's or head cement to the hook wrap... thumb

Some might say this is overkill, but since I'm only tying for myself, I take the time. Small drop of clear nail polish on hook shank; wrap thread. Place tail material on shank and tie in, another couple drops of polish. Tie in chenille and wrap to head; whip finish, add couple drops of head cement. Everything stays put till the fish eat the chenille off or I lose it.

I have been trying superglue and head cement to try to stop this from happening. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

Would recommend getting some Danville 210 Denier Flat Waxed thread and any colors they don't have get in Danville Fly Master Plus. Also Ultra thread is very nice stuff too! Lots of guys use other kinds of thread, but there is always something lacking for me so I do not use anything other than tying thread and sometimes mono! Mono works good too and is especially wanted on some kinds of tying, but mostly flies.

About the only time I will use glue on my thread base is when tying hair and that helps keep hair in place.

Once you tie a few with flat waxed thread, you will. It want to use the round anymore.
