Was on Caddo Lake today and noticed the cypress trees in the distance, over Alligator Bayou, were looking brown instead of green. Upon closer inspection the needles were falling off. Are they dying? Has anyone else noticed this?

I have noticed that and I have wondered the same thing. They are like that all the way up toward big cypress as well.

That's not a good sign, need to ask Texas parks and wildlife, someone needs to jump on this fast! I was over that way about a month ago and the water looked like raw sewage and smelled like it too, something has happened in that area!!

Maybe the beetles that they have been raising and releasing to eat the salvania have adapted to cypress trees? who_knows

Wouldn't that be a "par for the course" or Murphy's Law sort of thing? Would remind me of the state's initial stocking of grass carp!

The do turn brown and lose their leaves. Not sure what time of year that happens, it is different than Oaks or Maples so this might be something totally different. My neighbor used to have one and it made a mess in my driveway every year just don't remember when.

See you on the lake and have a great day!

I was there last September and noticed a bunch of dead looking Cypress Trees around Johnson's. I have no idea why.

No rain in 2 months, not a drop. Ground is like concrete. They love water. I have one in my backyard (not near water) and every August I fight for it not to brown. Lately I have been filling the hole around the base up with water every couple days....it's half doing well.

Just my guess....I fight it every year. I should have picked a better tree to plant, but they are so cool looking, even when barren of needles.

Open your eyes & look within, are you satisfied with the life youre living.

No matter how good or bad you have it, wake up each day thankful for your life. Someone somewhere else is desperately fighting for theirs.

Probably stress from the lack of rain and increased temps. Pretty typical for cypress to brown up or even drop its leaves in late summer without adequate water
