I finally had time to finish my bait tank on the kayak after a few designs with filters I gave up on them. I made one with an inline pump mounted on side of kayak just under water level, that pumps water straight to 15 gal tank complete with overflow holes i drilled to prevent just that... Overflow. Then when on the move over rocks ect I can drain tank down to a few inches of water with a 90 deg fitting on side(almost on) bottom of tank that has drain tube that has different level settings by use of a simple wire vertically installed(with adjustable bumps) to hold it at certain levels. From 15 gallons to 3 gal. I think this is best way to go. No isulation required or filter media to mess with. Pics to come. Its crude but i am looking for a better tank.Pics to come. I forgot to ask ...anyone have an idea to improve?

and in action.

In first pic the short hose is for lowering level of water when on the move. I had a dozen gizzard shad and a few foot long drum in the tank all day with no problems. best part is no filter to mess with. self cleaning.worked flawlessly. just need a better tank. need an oblong tank for kayak stability. and caught some fish to!

Man that is awesome.

I just bought a cast net and started learning to cast -- specifically from the kayak, and now I'm in a situation of trying to figure out what to do with my shad after I net them.

How much does that thing weigh full of water though? Must be like paddling with a sack of bricks in the back, huh?

Its not bad. But I am going to cut about 6 inches off top of tank. Wind grabs it pretty good. I need a large diameter for large baits. Up to 15 inch gizzards.

This is just a case of my own ignorance, but how do you go about fishing with a 15 inch bait fish? And what kind of monster are you targeting with a fish bigger than most of my sand bass?

You might be suprised at how big a bait a 20 lber will eat. Most of the time however i use smaller baits though.

Almost forgot this is the inside of tank. The small circular base was for filter before i removed it.

Center of gravity too high.. might not notice it in flat conditions but you will when waves build. Be careful.
