Any word on what caused it woul be really sad if it was an error from an employee that was not properly trained. Dam to holding pond breaks or something I could see somewhat but other than that lot of serious problems for them as a group.

Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

It was the EPA, they ruptured an abandoned gold mine while it was undergoing remediation. They are already blaming everyone but themselves, the original miners, the contract crew, etc. etc. If it was a private party you know they'd be bankrupt by the fines. Anyhow politics aside, they were trying to do the right thing, they just really screwed up. My understanding of heavy metals is they take generations to bio accumulate in foodchain where they start manifesting themselves in very ugly ways.

Here's an article giving a short history of the abandoned mines up there and the ongoing problem of cleaning them up

SO the EPA can fine us, who can fine the EPA?

The ruin so much they touch.
