I always heard it told you dont eat bullheads, or they were not good for eating, not sure why. Maybe because they are just so dang ugly ha ha.
Just reading another thread and several guys mentioned eating them.
What do you all think? Do you eat them?

Just depends on how hungry you are, and the time of the year,to me they taste a little better in the early spring.

When a kid we ate lots of them. Didn't even skin them, all we did was gut, behead, and scrape the skin with a knife, and same for the inside. All we knew then it was a catfish, and we liked fish.

Used to seine them out of my grandpa's slough and put them in a big trough of clear water for a few days to "clean out". Two pound mudcats were pretty good eating back in the 50's.

From Genesis: "And God promised men that good and obedient wives would be found in all corners of the earth."
Then He made the earth round...and He laughed and laughed and laughed!

Use to eat them as a kid back in the 60's and 70's. Have not ate one in about 35-40 years.

Most of the ones that I catch these days are caught while I'm catching eater size channel cats in the 12" to 16" range. These are usually pretty good sized yellow bullheads. I clean them and eat them just like I do the channel cats and nobody has ever noticed the difference. I think it has more to do with the environment that they live in than the species. If you catch them out of a mud hole then they will taste muddy. The ones that I catch out in Lake Livingston are bigger than the ones from smaller waters and taste just fine. They are not common but when one comes along he goes on the table.
You know that old saying "Some people march to the beat of a different drummer."? I don't listen to a drum at all and have meandered through life instead of marching.

Ate them a lot growing up in West Texas. My family actually prefers them over other catfish. Very tasty critters!

Sure ate a ton of them back when I was a kid. They came from the clear, rushing waters of 5 mile creek, near Simpson Stuart rd and hwy75.(back then there was no I-45, and the water was fairly pollution free). Beheaded, skinned, battered and fried, they were just fresh caught, tasty catfish!
