I for years have fished Granger Lake for crappie and catfish. I'm going to Belton Lake this weekend for the 1st time in about 10 years I wanted to know if anyone has fished Belton recently I know its a heavy Hybrid bass lake any tips on live bait to slab spoons also technique I heard trolling up and down the creek channels would work or along humps and ledges with a diving crankbait from 10-25 feet.

I am by no means an expert on hybrids, but I have caught them on Belton while Bass fishing. Only place I have ran into them is on the lower part of the lake near the dam in 20-50 FOW. I was throwing a 14' Crank in natural shad colors. My sonar was showing big balls of bait and I was cranking all around them. Caught a few LMB and wipers in the same area. Hopefully someone else can chime in with some better tips, but its at least a place to start.

Thanks for the help, just got a nice boat to start taking my boys out we have always bank fishing for years. I have a few deep diving crank baits already in shad colors from 5-25 ft I'll try those. 1st time trying Belton lake being that we live in the Austin area.

Belton has changed quite a bit over the last 2 years. Water has cleared up and fish as well as bait have scattered a bit. The clear water has made them more spooky. You may be able to find them schooling this time of year. Get out there early, the ski boats and jets skis will be plentiful after 12.

I recommend that you try a different lake than Belton. I fish Belton 2 to 4 times a week both early and late. Hybrid fishing is really tough right now. Local guides are cancelling trips due to low numbers of fish. I personally went to Tawakoni because it was so bad here. I was out 3 hours this morning and caught 3 fish. I mark no fish in all of the spots that used to be the hot spots. I read Dennis Christians report on a trip to Lake Waco on Monday and have decided it will be the next trip I take. If you come to Belton, I wish you luck.
