Howdy all!
Found a great deal on Group-on for a bed n breakfast near Utopia, (on the Sabinal river) so the fiancé' and I are headed down this weekend. She doesn't know it yet, but there will be much river fishing! I did some research online, and it looks to be great place for small Largemouth, Bream/Perch, and Rio Grande Perch/Texas Cichlid.
Anybody have any tips on location, lures to use, and/or technique? I'm planning on taking some road runners, rooster tails, small poppers, crappie jigs, ect. I'm also going to bring the mask/snorkel and GoPro camera for some underwater footage hopefully.
Also - anybody fish the Frio in or around Garner State Park? What about the Sabinal up in Lost Maples?
Last question - what, if any, of these rivers hold good populations of Guadalupe bass? And, how can I tell the difference between Guads and regular LMB? Spotted lateral line versus a straight lateral?
Okay now last question - any bodies of water around that hold smallmouth?
Cheers!

Sabinal River is up and looking very good in Utopia. Fished it several times in July and did well. Fish are holding close to drop offs and grass beds. Water is crystal clear. Side Note: Don't forget to eat at the Lost Maples Cafe in Utopia. GREAT FOOD!

Sabinal, Frio, Medina, Llano... all beautiful clear spring fed rivers in Texas have one thing in common for me. While lots of lures will catch fish I have found that a 3-4" curley tailed grub on a 1/4 oz jig head will always catch fish on our hill country streams. I have fished them all through the years. If this is not working, nothing is. Any color....as long as its chartruse!

Hoping to bag a few new species on this trip! Maybe a Guadalupe Bass and a Rio Grande Perch! Thank you Banker! Lost Maples Café, got it! I know you are the expert in this field!
Yes 361V, I just happen to have a bag of chartreuse cury tail grubs already in my box!!
