I have been fishing forever, mostly freshwater, and have gone through two bass boats, before modern electronics. I have recently decided to get another boat but, for the meantime, I will continue to fish out of my yak. I have mainly fished smaller lakes and rivers, but would like to fish some offshore areas on bigger lakes, such as Conroe, Rayburn, etc.

So, this is for you hardcore bass fisherman that have figured out the offshore challenge in a kayak. I understand "where" and "what" to look for - I guess it's more of the tactical aspect of doing it from a kayak that I need help with.

I'd appreciate any tips or references to threads/articles on this style of fishing (from a kayak).

I have a Ride 135 with a Lowrance Mark 4, which offers basic sonar and gps. I also have Navionics on my smart phone and use Google Earth (with history bar) quite a bit. I don't plan on upgrading anything, as I am saving for a boat.
Thanks

When I am fishing offshore I either anchor using my anchor trolley to position where on the structure I want to fish or use the drift sock and drift the area if it is a larger area.

If it is prefish and I am drifting I will have a crankbait in one rod holder, a carolina rig in another and a jig in my hand. When anchored I move around and fan cast areas until I find pattern to include just repositioning by changing where the anchor trolley is on the boat or pulling in some anchor line.
