not a way to make money unless you have solid sponsors. I think pro fishing is headed the way of "pro" sports car racing, a rich guys way to spend money, not a career for young and talented.

Those guys in the 20-30k, I wonder how much they spent to win that?

Pros say it costs 80-100k to fish the elite series. Very few guys are able to break even with tournament winnings. Almost none make a profit.

I saw an interview with Alton Jones in which he says he budgets according to how much sponsor money he has coming in that month and views any tournament winnings as a bonus.

Better be personable and appealing. Being able to "catch'em" alone will not cut it.

What about Stephen Kennedy? That guy fishes the elites and most all the opens, does it with ZERO sponsors. He's a true hammer!

no, he's independently wealthy, just like Boyd.

Stephen has fished Elite series since 2006 and won 1,284,763.00. That's $128,000 a year average. Take out entry fees and other costs, doesn't leave much or any to live on.

Kennedy made 60k last year in the elite series, so he was in the red for sure.

Hard way to make any money and then being away from your wife/family. Then when the wife leaves you and wants a divorce she takes half of what you brought in, which leaves you with a can of soup and a bag of crackers. Hard Life IMO

No mention here of what kind of endorsement money these guys make. Obvious that not all of them make out well with sponsors but those at the top do. Also I believe Angler of the Year gets 150K and then there's the Classic and other tournaments they enter.

Some more money to come through the season but there will still be a lot below the $80 to $100K that is generally considered what it takes to chase a year on the Tour.

I will keep the spreadsheet going thru the Classic.

There's a group of 10-20 or so that do very well regardless of their winnings. The rest are chasing the dream.
