Spent an amazing week vacationing in Destin. Started out with an out of this world charter fishing trip for my son, brother and friends. After that, it was time with the family and some clueless surf fishing for the rest of the week. On the last day, I was able to get some me time for some party boat fishing. We boarded and started to head out on the Vera Marie of Pelican Adventures. With dad going out with us, I was thankful that the captain decided to return to dock because of the high seas. It was rough! I am always appreciative of business that put safety before profit. Remember Pelican Adventures if you do go...

And wouldn't you know, on the very light night, I walked passed this sand bar about 150 yards from where we were staying and the fish were going crazy feeding! So my son and I tossed Moe's slabs across them and guess what? Those fish love them as much as the white basses here! Those lady fish were angry. It was fight to the death for them. They would thrash and fly in the air trying to get the hook off them. We caught fish almost every cast but would bring in fish that were gut hooked. I also noted that my braided line would snap frequently early on when we hooked fish. So loosen the drag and gave it rod back to my son. It wasn't long after that when he brought in the catch of the day! We had a blast. Too bad it was our last night there.

There was just a little day light left when we got home so I grabbed the kids and we check the same spot that was producing. Same Bat time and channel they were there. Since they say a picture is worth a thousand words. The following is my monologue.

Best fishing trip for my son!

Heading out on the Vera Marie.

3 Generations in picture.

Beautiful ladyfish

Catch of the day on a godfather slab?

Back home catching sandies.

Daughter catching with her Disney princess pole.

Thank goodness she likes this pole more.

Charlie is from Leon, France. Menage trois?

Tired of thumping for fish so this new boat of mine will bring the boom!

Awesome pics and post, Rick! Catching "baby tarpon" ladyfish on slabs is fun. I did that my last time at Destin but on the Ft Walton fishing pier. Lol. Saw that boat at HB ramp. Did'nt know that's you're new boat? Doh! OMG

Thanks. Not easy getting those little ones to join me. Never caught a tarpon, but baby tarpon is an apt name. Beautiful fish! Charlie and two sandies equals three/trios. Get your mind out of the gutter Étu! I couldn't resist the monologue bit.

Fortunately, no new boat for me. It was a spectacle that I witnessed when I parked my boat at the harbor for dinner after the fishing. It reminded me of the million dollar yatch that almost threw me off my pontoon just cruising by me while I was fishing on LL. Even more than this boat, I could hear the music despite the boat being barely visible on the horizon. My brother tells me there isn't a reason to own a boat unless you are using it to fish. I disagree with him. There were at least trios reasons sun bathing in front of that yatch.

what was the "catch of the day" in the surf? The one your son was sporting? that was no ladyfish.

A bit blurry but the catch of the day looks like a baby red. To me. Good job by GasPassJr!

It kind of did SeaPro but then again, I didn't see any spots! Was thinking maybe it was a big Whiting or perhaps a bluefish.

I think it's a red drum, too. It looks like it has a dark spot in the tail.
