I've been testing a Helix 7 with SI/DI/GPS for about a month now. I gotta say this unit is extremely good! Some points:

1. I've done everything in my power (without using a hammer) to get this thing to break. Everything from dropping it, towing the boat 2 hours at 70mph with the unit on the bow, hitting it with cast net weights, washing the boat with a high pressure hose while the unit is still connected, etc. Still fires up.

2. The screen brightness is really one of the best features of the unit. Very bright and easy to see from far away and when sunny outside.

3. No problems at all with the sonar or GPS, no screen freezes or anything else.

4. I said this in another post but if you're used to the menus and format of the core units, this thing will be a breeze.

I think this unit would be ideal for anyone but people using kayaks or small boats will really benefit from using it. Bigger boats with units in the console and bow might want a networking unit, but for most anyone this thing will be a great purchase.

Thanks for the write up and it's great to hear how the testing is going and thanks again. Larry.

What are the differences between the Helix 5 SI and the 7 other than screen size?

Thanks for the report.

Any screenshots. Really interested in SI for the yak and crappie fishing.
Don't want to buy until SW is fairly locked down. I know for most stuff this usually takes a few months after release. My new stuff hasn't been working too good lately. mad

Those units have the same sonar operating software as all Side Imaging units. Just less buttons and less expandability.
It's not like they have some new technology.

Does your new stuff have current software?

Not fishing stuff having problems. New company car that has been in shop for 8 weeks total 2 separate places. Lots of new parts but they can't seem to fix it.
