Please any information, is the fishing for Stripers below the dam ok? My son in law is with us from South Africa for four days (have not seen him for 10 years) and he would like to tie into a Striper, thanks.

Thank you for the replies, I was really thinking about fishing from the bank at the dam.

The fishing below the dam is still very good. They are still dumping water from the lake.
The crowds are also still large on the River.
Bridge is still out on Texas side so you either have to get to the dam by going through Oklahoma or by the back way by the state park.
Lot's more details in the Bank Fishing section.
Good luck!

They tend to change prefrance a lot there so switch colors. There are some really big stripes in there right now so at least a five I would have the eight.

40,000 cfs and a 5wt probably isn't going to serve you well. they should be closing the gates in a week or so and then we'll be looking at 10,000 cfs while they generate which with this heat should be 24/7 till the end of September.

It's very very tough, if not possible to fly fishing below the dam. I hit the dam once or twice a week, I know first hand. The current is very strong. big crowd every day, especially on weekends. The big fishes are at the hedge of the white water, which is about 70 yards or 80 yards away. The water coming out of the flood gate is cooler than the water coming out of generation on TX side. So big mamas are hiding in the cooler water. My friends and I are using surf rod at the Dam right now, we need to be able to hit the wall for big fish on top water. We are after 15#, 20# stripers, not interested in 2# or 3# babies. You may catch small stripers close to the bank, using clouser, small streamer, bucktail jig. The colors are white with chartreuse, red with white, pink with white, purple with white. If you want more info about fishing stripers with conventional gears, shoot me a pm. I am more than happy to share.

Thanks for the replies I was hoping to fish the edges not looking for the big ones but I have noted the big crowds and fast water. We have decided to give it a miss and rather to fish closer to home. All the replies are much appreciated, thank you.

Thank you all. I have read all I nee to know. It will be at least 30 days before I even think about fly fishing below the dam. In the meantime I will get to work on tying some flies.
