This has turned into another summer that I don't manage to get out fishing at all. My work always gets busy in the summer, plus I ratchet up my bike mileage to get ready for the Hotter 'N Hell Hundred at the end of August, and the end result is that I end up not getting to fish at all.

But I didn't get the call for a job this morning, so I was on the water before 7:00 am. I spent the first couple of hours fishing docks and brush piles, then tried some bridge pilings. It was a tough bite for me on all of the above. It was another hot day. Water temp was 87 to 88 degrees. The wind was pretty stiff early, then let up a bit, later. Cedar Creek is now 10 inches low.

I ended up with six keepers. They bit 1/16 oz and 3/32 oz jigs, rigged with my homemade plastic shad. Electric chicken was the best color. They also bit a dark gray shad. I caught the fish 7 to 12 feet deep, in 8 to 20 feet of water.

Late this morning, I saw three boats headed back to Chuck's dock. It occurred to me that it might have been a more productive long term plan for finding summer fish if I had just followed him and his crew around this morning. But, I managed to catch dinner, and get my boat out for a much needed run, so I shouldn't complain.

I cleaned the five fish that were decent keepers like this one.

Pixie stays at her post while I fish.

But not as chunky as the ones you've been posting lately. I've been wanting to get down to Fork but can't seem to find the time. Maybe in the fall.

The wind wasn't blowing nearly as hard early this morning as it has been lately. Maybe tomorrow will be the same. Good luck!
